Learn the art of calligraphy with a fountain pen. A journey into the beauty of handwriting through the eyes of the great Florentine masters. From posture and breathing to mastering the pen.

This course includes the precious Pineider calligraphy starter kit containing an Avatar fountain pen, a steel nib, four different ink and watermarked paper. Complimentary, you will also find detailed handouts that will help you practice at home whenever you need.

The workshop takes place in presence with a maximum limit of 4 people in order to guarantee each participant all the attention possible.

When and where?

6 hours of full immersion in the world of calligraphy through the eyes of Francesco Petrarca, from 10 am to 5:00 pm on a date you like. The workshop takes place at Pineider Boutique in Lungarno degli Acciaiuoli, right next to Ponte Vecchio, in the heart of Florence.

250€ including the calligraphy starter kit, which comprises:

· 1 Pineider Avatar UR fountain pen;

During the course you will learn:

How to use a fountain pen

We will explore the characteristics and techniques of using a broad-edge nib, discovering how to make the most of its potential.

Fundamentals of calligraphy

We will focus on essentials such as posture, breathing, hand and shoulder movements, creating a solid foundation for calligraphy practice.

Analysis of beautiful writing

We will explore the key elements of beautiful writing, including proportion, rhythm, ductus and chiaroscuro, learning to observe and understand details that contribute to the quality of writing.

Exploration of florentine script forms

We will study the forms of the Florentine lower and upper case alphabet, taking inspiration from the writing of Francesco Petrarca.

Writing takes time, but it returns the benefits of the time we’ve spent taking care of ourselves. Writing has a dual nature: the external, connected to the meaning of words, and the internal, linked to one’s personality.

By taking care of words, we learn to take care of ourselves, reclaiming an ancient art like that of beautiful writing.

How does it work?

The workshop is dedicated to four people at a time
to ensure I can provide the utmost attention.
It is an 6-hour full immersion experience,
with a coffee break and boutique tour.
There will be a one-hour lunch break.

We will meet at Pineider Boutique and I will guide you to the workshop room, where we’ll spend the day.
You will then receive your calligraphy starter kit and,
after introductions, we’ll dive straight into writing.

Morning

· Introduction to the 14th-century cancelleresca script
· Introduction to the tools
· Proportions, rhythm and chiaroscuro
· Posture, breath, and hand control
· Setting up the work sheet
· Basic shapes and warm-up exercises
· Analysis and design of the lowercase alphabet

Afternoon

· Analysis and design of the uppercase alphabet
· Formed writing trials
· Basics of critical analysis
· Conclusions
